What Was This Session All About?

Business owners have one thing in common —  they want to make money. Some of them are good at it, and others struggle. If you’re just starting, or if you’ve been around a while and want to make more money, we have a story for you.

Kim Walsh Phillips was overworked and broke. It wasn’t until she had to pawn her engagement ring to make payroll that she realized she needed to do something different. Kim discovered a book that helped her, but Kim also started doing research. Then, she started a challenge on social media that was highly successful. She is now known as one of the top digital marketers today.

If you want to know what she did and how it worked for her, Take a look at this session she gave at T&C.

Who is Kim Walsh Phillips?

  • Founder of Powerful Professionals
  • Recently named #475 in the INC 5000
  • Bestselling and Forbes Must Read Author of The Ultimate Guide for Instagram for Business,  and The No BS Guide to Direct Response Social Media Marketing (Co-Authored with Dan Kennedy)

What We Learned

You’re probably thinking —  I don’t have any more time to do new things. The good news is that it won’t cost you more time. These strategies are about getting more out of what you’re doing.

Kim used to work around the clock and was still completely broke. But, then, reality hit her when she had to pawn her engagement ring to make payroll. So, she knew she had to do something new.

She found the book, No BS Direct Marketing by Dan Kennedy, and a light bulb went off. She remembered the quote by Tony Robbins, “If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.”

So, she began researching what digital marketers are doing. They were giving a free gift. So, she began experimenting. She had 1500 email subscribers. And she grew it to over 100,000 email subscribers.

Know this: You have value, and you deserve to be paid for it. Tell yourself: If it’s not going to get me results, I am not going to do it.

How?

We are not going to show up and try to sell them something. You have to show up to the party that is social media. We are not going to chase after the money anymore. We are going to have them come to us.

The “More Followers” Challenge

The Funnel

  1. Facebook Ads
  2. Challenge Opt-in page
  3. Confirmation page, join the Facebook group, download the Blueprint, Upgrade to VIP

Then, they created a Facebook Group to run the challenge. They sent sign-up emails to the whole email list. 60% of those who opted into the challenge signed up for text reminders.

They switched their messaging to ManyChat and offered an incentive to subscribe.

Promotions

Facebook Ads

They promoted the challenge everywhere. Your marketing is not there to fascinate you but to fascinate your target market. So Kim and her company used everything to promote the same thing.

You don’t have to create complicated ad copy. Make it simple. Ask the question, and tell them where to go.

Facebook Posts

She posted every day. She posted stuff with her kids, different events and used all the channels to promote. She also used LinkedIn Events, Telegram, her Podcast, and more.

Welcome Questions

  • Name you used to sign up
  • The email you used to sign up
  • One question you have for Kim

She used the apps Groups Ninja to keep track of all this information.

Welcome Post

She had people comment on their video and someone else’s video. This creates additional notifications.

Pre-Challenge

She posted pre-challenges at the same time every day. Inside the post, they gave them extra credit if they shared the challenge with other people. Then, we entered them to win a 10x prize.

Challenge Content

She posted the challenge content every day at the same time to keep readers engaged, and so they knew what to expect.

Prizes

They shipped prizes overnight.

Quick Wins

Customers are just getting to know you. So, give them some kind of win right away.

Amazing Connections

Write about the people in the challenge, bring them on the screen and engage.

Sales Strategies

  • Make an offer on Day Four.
  • Include a time-sensitive call to action on Day One
  • Reiterate offer on additional days
  • Include a time-sensitive call to action when it ended.

Celebrate Action Takers

Kim posted memes celebrating each person who enrolled. This strategy created a new identity for them. Congratulate them, not thank them. In addition, people got access to Zoom backgrounds and similar prizes.

Celebration Board

Kim created a board, wrote each person’s name, and placed them on a large board. This strategy allowed her to connect with each person who signed up.

Funnel Order

The confirmation page sent people directly to the VIP upgrade. They tested different pricing and refunded anyone who bought the higher pricing. It wasn’t essential to price the VIP, but she wanted to get people in there and get to the course. As a result, 42% of VIP Buyers bought the course.

The Stats

  • 2063 new leads
  • 180 tickets sold to launch academy live
  • $77,093 Course Sales
  • 47 new people in Power Up Accelerators Club, $470,000 in sales

These customers came from cold traffic and became solid leads.
